Proton Saga Cross AMA02 spotted with new camouflage – launch imminent?

The Proton Saga Cross, codenamed AMA02, has been spotted wearing a new camouflage pattern, with six test vehicles reportedly heading towards the East Coast.

Funtasticko highlighted footage from Threads user anffwiee, alongside a reader’s photograph taken at the Kuantan-bound Lanchang rest area. The lighter disguise offers a clearer impression of the body shape than earlier test cars.

First AMA-based model to get hybrid?

Citing collaborator Joe Beshir, the publication says the convoy includes naturally aspirated petrol and hybrid versions undergoing a Peninsular Malaysia tour to collect real-world fuel consumption data.

The petrol model is tipped to pair a 1.5-litre i-GT four-cylinder engine producing 120 PS and 150 Nm with a CVT.

The hybrid reportedly uses a 1.5-litre dedicated hybrid engine rated at 82 kW and 136 Nm. These are engine figures, rather than combined hybrid-system output.

Five variants tipped

The reported line-up comprises:

• 1.5 Standard, Executive and Premium petrol variants
• 1.5 Premium and Flagship hybrids with a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT)

Trial production has reportedly begun, with mass production expected in late October 2026. 

Also, some sources also reported that the AMA02 Saga Cross may not be called Saga Cross, but instead Proton X30 - conveniently positioned below the Proton X50 in Proton's SUV line-up.
