Third-gen BYD Qin PLUS interior revealed ahead of late-October China launch

BYD has released official interior images of the third-generation Qin PLUS, giving us a closer look at the redesigned cabin ahead of the sedan's expected launch in China later this month.

The new model features a cleaner dashboard layout, a large floating infotainment screen and a two-spoke mul-tifunction steering wheel. BYD has also made changes to the materials, seating and storage space.

Interior

The third-generation Qin PLUS gets a redesigned minimalist dashboard. A large floating central touchscreen takes centre stage, accompanied by a digital instrument cluster and a new two-spoke multifunction steering wheel.

The air-conditioning vents are now partially concealed within the dashboard, giving it a neater appearance. Soft ambient lighting adds to the cabin's more relaxed feel.

BYD has also introduced more soft-touch materials throughout the interior, while making better use of the available storage space. Other updates include a larger panoramic sunroof and redesigned seats intended to provide better ergonomic support and comfort.

Exterior

The exterior has also been redesigned, with the third-generation Qin PLUS adopting a wider-looking front end and a more streamlined silhouette.

Its gently sloping fastback roofline gives the sedan a more coupé-like appearance, while the clean front-end design keeps the overall look relatively understated.

The new Qin PLUS measures 4,840mm long, 1,900mm wide and 1,498mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,800mm.

At the rear, the bodywork appears wider and fuller than before. BYD has retained the Qin family's distinctive full-width LED taillights, featuring an interwoven light pattern inspired by the traditional Chinese knot.

A new Island Blue exterior colour joins the range, inspired by a sea breeze sweeping across the water. The car also comes with 17-inch sporty alloy wheels.

Powertrain

Beyond the styling changes, BYD is also promising improvements in fuel efficiency and driving range.

The third-generation Qin PLUS has a claimed fuel consumption of just 2.58L/100km when operating with a depleted battery, which is said to be the lowest in its class.

Its claimed EV range has increased to 220km. With a full tank of petrol and a fully charged battery, BYD claims the new Qin PLUS can travel more than 2,290km.

These are manufacturer-claimed figures, and actual fuel consumption and driving range will depend on driving conditions and usage.

Qin PLUS vs Seal 6

It is worth pointing out that the BYD Seal 6 already available in Malaysia is based on the Qin L, not the Qin PLUS. Although both models are C-segment sedans, they are positioned slightly differently.

The Qin PLUS is aimed at buyers looking for a more affordable, value-focused family sedan, while the Qin L, sold in Malaysia as the Seal 6, is positioned higher in the range, with a larger body and a more spacious cabin.

The third-generation Qin PLUS is expected to launch in China in late October.
