The OMODA C5 EV is the first all-electric compact SUV from Chery Group's sub-brand OMODA, positioned as a global electric SUV targeted at younger buyers worldwide. Built on Chery's global vehicle architecture and incorporating the brand's latest design philosophy and EV technologies, it serves as a cornerstone of Chery Group's global export strategy. In April 2023, the OMODA C5 EV made its public debut at Auto Shanghai, subsequently entering dozens of international markets across Europe, Southeast Asia, Russia, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, competing against rivals such as the BYD Atto 3, MG ZS EV, and Renault Scénic E-TECH.
In terms of its global rollout, the OMODA C5 EV was launched in Indonesia in February 2024, followed by Malaysia in March, debuted in Bangkok, Thailand in August 2024, and officially went on sale in the Thai market in March 2025. It also expanded into Europe, launching in Spain in May 2024. In the Chinese market, the model is badged as the Chery Omoda E5 (or Chery E5) and made its official domestic debut at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show.
The OMODA C5 EV adopts a fresh global EV design language headlined by a "borderless grille + floating roof", delivering an avant-garde and dynamic aesthetic accentuated by parametric diamond-cut surfaces for a futuristic look. Up front, it features a closed-off grille paired with full-width LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and split headlamps to enhance horizontal visual width and high-tech appeal, while the sporty X-shaped front fascia further reinforces its youthful positioning. Along the sides, a sloping roofline creates a sleek coupe-SUV silhouette, complemented by a floating roof effect for greater visual depth. At the rear, the full-width tail light assembly incorporates distinctive Y-shaped or lightning-bolt light signatures, paired with a crossover-styled rear bumper for a clean yet striking profile.
Dimension-wise, the EV measures 4,424 mm long, 1,830 mm wide, and 1,588 mm tall, with a 2,630 mm wheelbase. Five exterior colours are available: Mint Green, Moonlight White, Mercury Grey, Space Black, and Volcanic Red. Inside, the cabin features a dual 12.3-inch or integrated 24.6-inch floating twin-screen setup, accompanied by 64-colour rhythmic ambient lighting and a two-spoke multi-function steering wheel. The interior is appointed with wood-grain trim and dual-tone soft-touch materials, balancing high-tech flair with a warm, family-friendly ambience.
The entire OMODA C5 EV range is powered by a front-mounted single permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 150 kW (approximately 204 hp) and 340 N·m of torque. The official 0-100 km/h sprint is completed in 7.2 to 7.6 seconds, on to a top speed of 172 km/h.
Energy is supplied by a ~61 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. Driving range figures vary by testing cycle and market variant: up to 505 km on the NEDC cycle and approximately 430 km on the WLTP cycle, with an average power consumption of around 15.5 kWh/100 km. For charging, AC charging supports up to 9.9 kW to 11 kW, taking roughly 3 to 4 hours to charge from 30% to 80%; DC fast charging at up to 80 kW juices the battery from 30% to 80% in 28 minutes. A Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) reverse charging feature comes standard across the range, supplying up to 3.3 kW of external power output.
Underneath, the OMODA C5 EV uses a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout with MacPherson strut independent front suspension and a rear torsion beam non-independent setup—a standard configuration in this segment. As part of a mid-cycle update, selected new variants gained acoustic double-glazed front glass, a 540-degree panoramic camera system, and a driver's seat massage function. In Thailand, the powertrain specifications were revised with battery capacity reduced from 61 kWh to 50.6 kWh (dropping NEDC range from 505 km to 422 km), while DC fast charging capability was bumped from 80 kW to 110 kW.
In terms of in-cabin tech, a dual-screen cockpit comes standard across the range, with higher variants boasting twin 12.3-inch displays for the digital instrument cluster and central infotainment screen, running a system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Audio on higher trims is upgraded from the standard 6-speaker setup to an 8-speaker Sony premium sound system. Other creature comforts include heated and ventilated front seats with power adjustment for the driver, a 50W cooled wireless smartphone charger, dual-zone automatic climate control, Auto Brake Hold, and a 360-degree panoramic camera. Boot space is rated at 380 litres, expandable via split-folding rear seats.
On the passive safety front, the OMODA C5 EV is engineered with a high-strength cage body structure designed to meet stringent safety standards across Europe and key Southeast Asian markets. Active safety is handled by an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite packing up to 19 features, including full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). For its European market entry, the manufacturer anticipated that the vehicle would achieve a full 5-star Euro NCAP crash test rating.
Since its debut, the OMODA C5 EV has generated strong sales momentum across international markets. In October 2025, Chery's combined OMODA and JAECOO global monthly sales hit 42,444 units—up 29% month-on-month and 88% year-on-year—with new energy vehicles (NEVs) accounting for 64% (over 27,000 units). In Thailand, the OMODA C5 EV breached 2,700 deliveries in its first launch month alone. Over in Europe, Chery Group (OMODA and JAECOO) registered 13,612 units in Italy throughout 2025, marking an astounding 698% year-on-year surge; in the UK, October sales reached 6,216 units (a 4.4% market share), with OMODA contributing 2,102 units. That same year, Chery Group maintained its status as China's top passenger vehicle exporter for the 23rd consecutive year, propelled by an 1,100% surge in OMODA EV sales across Europe.
From a media review standpoint, industry analysts noted that the OMODA C5 EV commanded a 15% overseas design premium thanks to its "borderless grille + floating roof" aesthetic, with its bold exterior styling and modern interior striking a chord with Southeast Asian and European buyers. In China, the Chery Omoda EV drew notable attention at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, hailed by media as a pivotal model accelerating Chery's global NEV rollout and solidifying the brand's international competitiveness.
