2026 GWM Tank 300 facelift revealed in China, wheelbase 260 mm longer

Great Wall Motor (GWM) has released official images of the facelifted Tank 300 ahead of the start of pre-orders in China on July 6, 2026. The updated mid-size off-road SUV receives exterior and interior revisions, chassis upgrades, and a new PHEV variant with an extended electric-only range. International market rollouts are expected to follow the domestic China launch.

Exterior

The most prominent change up front is the replacement of the previous T-shaped Tank logo with large "TANK" block lettering across the grille. The front bumper adopts a more utilitarian look with exposed bolts and tow hooks, while additional mounting points have been added to the lower A-pillar for accessories such as auxiliary lighting or camera equipment.

A small hump atop the windscreen houses a LiDAR sensor, pointing to the inclusion of GWM's Coffee Pilot Ultra advanced driver assistance system. The overall design draws from the Tank 300 Hooke Edition concept shown at Auto Shanghai 2025.

Chassis and dimensions

GWM has shortened the front overhang to improve the approach angle over obstacles. Registered dimensions in China put the facelifted Tank 300 at 4,886 mm long, 1,984 mm wide, and 1,927 mm tall, on a 3,010 mm wheelbase — the latter extended 260 mm over the outgoing model.

The production model is expected to carry over the double wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear live axle from its predecessor. A rear differential lock is anticipated as standard, with a front differential lock offered as an option.

Powertrain

ICE variants carry over existing engine options: a 2.4-litre turbodiesel producing 490 Nm, a 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol with 355 hp, and a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder now rated at 235 hp.

The headline addition is a new PHEV variant using GWM's Hi4-Z system paired with a 60 kWh battery, delivering an electric-only range of up to 200 km on the WLTC cycle — well above the typical range of most PHEV SUVs currently on sale. GWM has not yet released power output figures specific to the Tank 300 PHEV, though the same Hi4-Z system in the Tank 400 combines a 2.0-litre turbo engine with an 800V architecture and a 59 kWh battery for a combined output of up to 852 hp.

The Tank 300 is currently priced in China between CNY 199,800 and CNY 249,800 (approximately RM 117,000 to RM 146,000). In May 2026, GWM delivered 4,183 units of the model domestically, of which 588 — around 14 percent — were the existing Hi4-T PHEV variant.
