Australia's Geely EX2 gets larger battery than our eMas 5, priced from RM 82k

Geely has opened orders for the 2026 Geely EX2 in Australia, where the small electric hatch arrives as one of the market’s lowest-priced EVs and the cheapest with five seats. If it looks familiar, that's because the Geely EX2 is essentially our Proton eMas 5, albeit with some tweaks.

The Australian-spec Geely EX2 is offered in two grades, with pricing starting from AUD 26,490 (~RM 82k) before on-road costs for the Complete and rising to AUD 30,990 (~RM 96k) for the Inspire. That keeps it below several larger electric hatches on the market, while still undercutting some higher-spec small EVs on equipment and drivetrain sophistication.

The base Complete version uses a 60 kW/150 Nm rear-mounted electric motor paired with a 35.3-kWh LFP battery. Claimed range is 252 km on the WLTP cycle, with charging support of up to 60kW on DC power and 6kW on AC.

Standard equipment on the entry variant includes 16-inch steel wheels with hubcaps, a 14.6-inch touchscreen, an 8.8-inch digital instrument display, LED headlights, power-adjustable front seats, four speakers, rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera.

The Inspire grade upgrades to a 47.1-kWh LFP battery and a more powerful 85 kW/150 Nm rear motor. Geely claims 345 km of WLTP range, which is enough to match the BYD Dolphin Essential and beat the BYD Atto 1 Premium on range, though it still trails the MG 4 Urban Essence 54.

Charging also improves on the higher trim, with DC input lifted to 80 kW, while AC charging remains capped at 6 kW. The Inspire also adds a 360-degree camera, 16-inch alloy wheels, a black roof, power tailgate, six-speaker audio, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, rain-sensing wipers, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

Versus our eMas 5, both the Complete and Inspire variants offer marginally larger battery packs, resulting in improved driving range. Could the larger battery packs eventually find its way to our Malaysian-spec eMas 5 too? Fingers crossed, as the larger eMas 7 recently received such an update.
