Geely will launch the Geely EX2 in the UK in August 2026, marking the Chinese brand's third model in the market after the EX5 EV and Starray PHEV. For us in Malaysia, the Geely EX2 is known to us as the Proton eMas 5.
Back home in China, the Geely EX2 / Proton eMas 5 is sold as the Geely Xinyuan, as is available only with a single rear-mounted electric motor, outputting 58 kW (79 PS)/130 Nm or 85 kW (116 PS)/150 Nm.

Said model was recently updated in its home market, receiving a new 47.14-kWh battery pack, enabling a CLTC-rated range of up to 480 km. Variants with the smaller 40.16-kWh and 30.12-kWh battery packs return a CLTC-rated range of 410 km and 310 km, respectively.

Under the more stringent and realistic WLTP test cycle, variants with the smaller 30.12-kWh battery pack offer 225 km, while the larger 40.16-kWh battery pack offer up to 325 km. While Geely has yet to reveal WLTP figures of the larger 47.14-kWh pack, we estimate that it could return around 400 km under this test cycle.

For Europeans, the next closest rivals are the Renault 5 EV, which returns a WLTP-rated range of between 309 km to 406 km, while the Volkswagen ID Polo offers between 328 km to 455 km.

Now, Geely hopes that the EX2 will play an important role in the company’s growth in the UK, as the company aims to sell 100,000 units annually by 2030. After all, in Malaysia, Proton has sold over 9,500 units of the eMas 5 since the model launched back in October 2025, and over in China, the Geely Xingyuan has breached the 196,000-unit mark within the first half of the year, holding its top sales spot since April 2026.
