It appears that Chery now has its sights set on Japan, as a recently online brand preview was held in Japan.
During said brand preview event, Car Watch reported that Chery revealed that it is “considering entering the Japanese market”.

The Wuhu-based company went on to say, “We recognize Japan as one of the important markets in the global right-hand drive market. Furthermore, Cherry's automotive business already operates in more than 130 countries and regions, and we want to offer products that have earned the trust of more than 20 million customers worldwide and have a proven track record in the market to the people of Japan as well.”
Like BYD, Chery also has plans to set up their own sales and service network, one that they said would “be on par with our competitors.”
At the time of writing, Chery has yet to reveal which one of their sub-brands would be offered in Japan, though Chery, Omoda | Jaecoo, iCaur, Jetour, and Lepas do offer right-hand drive (RHD) cars.
