Porsche's profits have bounced back sharply in the first nine months of 2026, even as revenue and vehicle deliveries continued to fall.
The German sports car maker reported an operating profit of €1.74 billion, up from just €40 million in the same period last year, helped largely by a significant reduction in restructuring costs.

According to Porsche's Financial Report, revenue for the January–September period fell 5.9% year-on-year to €25.28 billion. Despite the decline, Porsche's operating profit margin recovered from 0.2% to 6.9%.
Net cash flow from its automotive business rose to €2.5 billion, while net liquidity in the division reached €8.23 billion.

The biggest factor behind Porsche's profit recovery was a sharp drop in restructuring and strategic realignment expenses.
These costs fell from approximately €2.7 billion in the first nine months of 2025 to around €500 million this year. The €2.2 billion reduction alone was greater than the €1.7 billion operating profit, showing just how much the lower expenses contributed to the recovery.
Porsche's stronger cash position was also supported by proceeds from the sale of its stakes in Bugatti Rimac and the Rimac Group. The transactions helped lift automotive net cash flow to €2.5 billion, providing additional financial flexibility as the company reshapes its business.
While profits improved, Porsche continued to face weaker demand. Worldwide deliveries totalled 178,532 vehicles in the first nine months of 2026, down 16% from 212,509 units a year earlier.

In China, where competition remains particularly intense, Porsche is sticking to its strategy of prioritising value over volume. Rather than chasing sales through aggressive pricing, the company wants to protect its premium positioning and long-term brand value.
Its focus on higher-value models and personalised options is intended to support revenue and profitability, even at lower sales volumes.
Revenue fell by 5.9%, considerably less than the 16% decline in deliveries. That suggests Porsche has managed to cushion some of the financial impact of selling fewer cars, although the difference alone does not establish how much of the benefit came from pricing or product mix.
Not every model has been affected equally.
The Porsche 911 remained a bright spot, with deliveries rising 12% to 42,217 units. The Panamera and Taycan, however, recorded declines of 35% and 31% respectively.
The discontinuation of the 718 range and petrol-powered Macan has also left gaps in Porsche's line-up, adding to the pressure on overall deliveries while replacement models are being prepared.

With global deliveries falling, Porsche is working towards a business model that can remain profitable at lower production volumes.
Under its new Sportwagenschmiede '35 strategy, the company has outlined three key targets:

For now, the company appears willing to accept lower sales volumes in exchange for a leaner operation and a greater focus on higher-value vehicles. Whether that approach can deliver sustained earnings growth will become clearer as its new models arrive and the 2035 strategy takes shape.
