SAIC Motor's overseas sales surge 52.4% to 1.166 million in first nine months of 2026

SAIC Motor has sold more vehicles overseas in the first nine months of 2026 than it did throughout the whole of 2025.

The Chinese carmaker reported global sales of 3.147 million vehicles from January to September, including more than 1.166 million sold overseas. International sales rose 52.4% year-on-year, with Europe remaining its largest overseas market.

MG sales in Europe

MG sold more than 280,000 vehicles across Europe in the first nine months of 2026, an increase of 23% compared with the same period last year.

The UK was among its strongest-performing markets. MG sold 18,000 vehicles there in September, setting a new monthly sales record for the brand.

Electrified models, including battery electric vehicles (BEVs), hybrids (HEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), accounted for 91.6% of those sales.

The MG4 EV Urban also topped the Car-B segment, taking a 16.5% market share.

In Poland, MG climbed to seventh place in the passenger car brand rankings in September, with a market share of 4.38%. Monthly sales jumped 88% year-on-year, while registrations for the first nine months increased by 44%.

Commercial vehicle exports

SAIC's commercial vehicle business also recorded strong overseas growth, with September sales reaching a record 18,395 units, up 120% year-on-year.

According to SAIC, it remains China's largest exporter of light commercial vehicles to Europe, with nearly 100,000 of its vehicles now in commercial use across the region.

Its eDELIVER range is Europe's most comprehensive line-up of electric light commercial vehicles.

At September's IAA Transportation show in Hanover, SAIC presented its full range of commercial vehicles for the first time. The event also saw the global debuts of several new models, including the Interstellar L, the 2027 eTerron 9 and the eDeliver 75 electric light truck.

To support its growing European customer base, SAIC is planning three regional facilities: a technical support centre in Frankfurt, a training centre in the UK and a parts logistics centre in Poland.

Maxus has also established a direct sales operation in Germany as part of its efforts to strengthen local sales and support services.

Growth in Australia, Argentina and Asian markets

SAIC's commercial vehicles have also made gains outside Europe.

In Australia, Maxus pickup sales in the 4×4 market rose 14% month-on-month. The T60 and T60 MAX performed particularly well, with combined sales increasing by 31% from the previous month.

In Argentina, the eDELIVER 9 secured an order from international logistics company DHL. SAIC says the deal set a new local record for the largest order of electric commercial vehicles.

Elsewhere, SAIC reported further progress across Asia and Africa.

In Singapore, its electric vans have led the local electric light commercial vehicle segment for several consecutive months.

In Hong Kong, the Maxus MIFA 7 has continued to top the MPV sales rankings, while in Egypt, cumulative orders for the G50 have exceeded 1,400 units.

SAIC Volkswagen expands exports

SAIC is also extending the overseas reach of its joint-venture brands.

In September, the first batch of SAIC Volkswagen's new Lamando L vehicles destined for Mexico rolled off the production line and was shipped overseas, marking the joint venture's entry into the North American export market.

SAIC Volkswagen already exports vehicles to markets including the Philippines, Vietnam and Uzbekistan. It plans to introduce more new energy vehicles to international markets, including the ID. ERA 9X.

Meanwhile, the Buick Electra E7, produced by SAIC-GM, has recently begun exports to South Korea, with further overseas markets expected to follow in stages.
