Toyota is reportedly preparing to launch a facelifted Innova HyCross in India, with its debut expected on 26 November, according to Indian automotive media RUSHLANE.
The update is said to bring some exterior design changes, but the biggest talking point is the possibility of a new Flex-Fuel Hybrid powertrain. If introduced, it would mark a significant development for Toyota's hybrid line-up in the Indian market.

Toyota previously unveiled a flex-fuel strong hybrid prototype based on the Innova HyCross in New Delhi, India, in August 2023.

The prototype combines a modified 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and is designed to run on fuel containing up to 85% ethanol (E85).
To handle the higher ethanol content, Toyota made several changes to the engine, including modifications to the spark plugs and piston rings.

The fuel system was also upgraded, with changes to the ethanol sensor, fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel tank materials. Toyota further revised the cold-start system and exhaust controls to ensure reliable operation while reducing emissions.
If this powertrain makes it into production for the Indian market, it would be an important step towards wider adoption of high-ethanol fuel technology.
Based on earlier spy shots and patent images, the facelifted Innova HyCross is expected to receive a more noticeable redesign at the front.

The most obvious change appears to be a slimmer, sharper headlight design.
The grille is also said to be revised, with a new central mesh pattern that blends into the front bumper for a fresher look. The MPV's overall shape and proportions, however, are likely to remain largely unchanged.

Changes along the sides are relatively minor, although new rim designs could be introduced. At the rear, Toyota may also make small revisions to the taillights and bumper.
The cabin layout is due to retain much of the current model's design, including its high-mounted centre console, electronic gear selector and seat adjustment controls on the door panels.

Details of the infotainment system are difficult to make out in the spy shots, as parts of the display have been covered. But there is speculation that Toyota could introduce a larger screen or updated infotainment software.
Other possible changes include revised cabin materials, new seat upholstery and software improvements, although none of these updates has been confirmed.
The current Innova HyCross is available in India with two 2.0-litre powertrain options: a naturally aspirated petrol engine and a self-charging hybrid.

The standard 2.0-litre petrol version produces 172 PS and 205 Nm of torque. It is paired with a Direct Shift CVT featuring sequential shift mode, with a claimed fuel consumption figure of 16.13 km/L.
The self-charging hybrid variant combines a 2.0-litre engine with Toyota's fifth-generation hybrid system. The engine produces 184 PS and 188 Nm of torque, while the powertrain is paired with an e-Drive transmission and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
The hybrid system delivers smoother acceleration and offers a claimed fuel consumption figure of up to 22.16 km/L.
The facelifted Innova HyCross is shaping up to be an interesting update for India's seven- and eight-seat MPV segment. Whether the flex-fuel hybrid powertrain will make it into the production model should become clearer when Toyota officially reveals the updated vehicle.
In Malaysia, the locally available counterpart is the Toyota Innova Zenix, which is currently offered in two variants:
