2026 Leapmotor D99 debuts: Brand’s first MPV gets REEV & EV, priced from RM 151k

Could we be witnessing the gradual growth in popularity of MPVs? This is the 2026 Leapmotor D99, the company’s first-ever MPV.

Now, Leapmotor may not be a name that’s typically associated with MPVs, but the Zhejiang-based company has done their homework when developing the D99, as MPVs are seen as a second home in the domestic Chinese market.

And the interior of the Leapmotor D99 is all about space – the interior’s usable length measures 3,663 mm, thus offering more space than 91.3% of its similar-segment rivals. The Leapmotor D99 also offers an ultra-wide 180 mm centre passthrough between the second-row seats.

Speaking of second-row seats, the Leapmotor D99’s second-row seats feature 124-degree zero gravity seats, replete with a 10-point massage function, seatback ventilation, and heated arm rest and ottoman. Said second-row seats can also flip 180 degrees, allowing occupants to face the third-row seats.

Continuing on the cabin, the Leapmotor D99 also offers a 706-litre trunk space, which they claim is sufficient for ferrying seven occupants and 10 luggage. Leapmotor also highlighted the D99 offers 43 storage spaces around the cabin, as well as a number of charge ports scattered within.

For the first-row occupants, both seats offer heating and ventilating functions, as well as a 10-point massage function. Leapmotor also pointed out that the front seats offer 20 mm thick high elasticity foam and a 12-layer luxury seat structure.

But the Leapmotor D99 isn’t just superficial – the company has given the D99 a dual-chamber air suspension system, supported by Leapmotor’s self-developed LMC Integrated Motion Control 2.0 system.

For the Chinese market, Leapmotor is offering two powertrain options, a pure EV as well as a range-extender EV (REEV).

The pure EV variants of the Leapmotor D99 offer a hybrid NMC + LFP CATL-sourced battery pack with a capacity of 115 kWh. Leapmotor claims a range of 352 km under the WLTC test cycle.

Then there’s the REEV variants of the D99, with adds an Aurobay-sourced turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder BHE15-KFZ petrol engine to the mix – an engine that seems familiar at a glance, but with some tweaks. Here, the engine produces 136 PS, and is still port-injected; there’s no direct injection here. And being an REEV, said engine doesn’t drive the wheels and is used only to recharge the D99’s 80.3-kWh CATL-sourced LFP battery pack.

The REEV variants of the Leapmotor D99 offer a combined range of up to 960 km under the WLTC test cycle.

Prices start from CNY 249,800 (~RM 151k) for the EV variant, while the REEV variants start from CNY 259,800 (~RM 157k).

At this point of time, it’s too soon to say if the Leapmotor D99 could be offered here, but it would certainly be an interesting option alongside other Chinese MPVs like the Denza D9, Zeekr 009, and GWM Wey G9.
