2026 Toyota Corolla Cross updated in Japan – G grade dropped, more equipment standard, prices from ~RM 75k

Toyota has introduced another round of updates for the Corolla Cross in Japan, a little over a year after the crossover received a broader facelift and switched to an all-hybrid model range in its home market.

The latest revision is less about design and more about simplifying the line-up. Toyota has discontinued the entry-level G grade, leaving the S, Z and GR Sport variants, while several previously optional safety and convenience features are now fitted as standard on the higher specifications.

With the G removed, the new starting point is the Corolla Cross S Hybrid 2WD at JPY 2,981,000 (~RM 75k). The S E-Four is priced at JPY 3,239,500 (~RM 81k). The previous G had started at JPY 2,760,000 (~RM 69k) for the 2WD and JPY 3,019,000 yen (~RM 76k) for the E-Four, meaning the effective entry price has risen even though the S itself is only marginally more expensive than before.

The higher-end Z receives a more noticeable price increase. The 2WD version now costs JPY 3,613,500 (~RM 91k), up from 3,430,000 yen, while the E-Four rises from 3,689,000 yen to JPY 3,872,000 yen (~RM 97k). The range-topping GR Sport E-Four is now priced at JPY 4,077,700 (~RM 102k), compared with 3,895,000 yen previously.

Part of that increase is offset by additional standard equipment. The Z and GR Sport now include blind-spot monitoring and Safe Exit Assist as standard, together with a panoramic-view monitor featuring a transparent underfloor display function. Toyota TeamMate Advanced Park and a heated steering wheel have also moved from the options list to the standard specification for these grades.

The S retains these systems as optional equipment, preserving some separation between the mid-level model and the more expensive versions. Wireless smartphone charging remains optional for the Z and GR Sport rather than becoming standard.

Toyota has also revised the colour and trim selections. The new Z Adventure special edition receives a Mineral-coloured interior, while two-tone combinations pairing a black roof with Mud Bath or Urban Khaki are offered specifically for the Adventure. Clear Beige Metallic and Metal Stream Metallic have been removed from the regular range.

Mechanically, the standard S and Z continue with Toyota’s 1.8-litre hybrid system, while the GR Sport uses a 2.0-litre hybrid powertrain and E-Four all-wheel drive. The regular variants return up to 26.4 km per litre on the WLTC cycle in front-wheel-drive form and 24.6 km per litre with E-Four, while the GR Sport is rated at 23.3 km per litre.

The body dimensions are unchanged. The regular Corolla Cross measures 4,455 mm long, 1,825 mm wide and 1,620 mm tall, while the GR Sport is five millimetres longer and 20 mm lower. Luggage capacity remains 487 litres.

Overall, the 2026 update makes the Japanese Corolla Cross range smaller but better equipped. Buyers lose the cheapest G grade, while those choosing the Z or GR Sport receive more of the driver-assistance and parking technology as standard rather than having to add it separately.

The changes apply to the Japanese-market model and do not automatically indicate revisions for the Malaysian Corolla Cross, which has its own specifications and pricing.
