July 2026 Malaysia SUV Sales: No turbo, no problem as Perodua Traz takes top spot, overtakes Proton X50

The Perodua Traz emerged as Malaysia's best-selling SUV in July 2026, recording 2,244 registrations and taking the top spot from the Proton X50.

The result marks the first time the Traz has led the monthly SUV rankings since it went on sale at the end of 2025. The model had spent the first half of 2026 behind the Proton X50, which topped the SUV rankings every month from January through June.

The Perodua Ativa finished second with 1,959 units, narrowly ahead of the Proton X50 at 1,953 units.

Just 291 units separated the top three SUVs, highlighting how closely contested the segment has become.

The Toyota Yaris Cross completed the top four with 1,381 registrations, continuing its strong run since entering the Malaysian market in volume from May.

Traz takes the SUV crown

The Traz's 2,244-unit performance represents a significant milestone for Perodua's newest SUV.

The model had previously spent much of 2026 chasing the Proton X50, with production ramp-up limiting its ability to challenge for the top position.

July was the first month in which the Traz moved ahead, with its 2,244 registrations putting it 285 units ahead of the Ativa and 291 units ahead of the X50.

The result also means Perodua placed two models within the top three, with the Ativa only six units behind the Proton X50.

However, the monthly result has not yet changed the overall 2026 picture. From January to July, the Proton X50 remained the year's best-selling SUV with 15,599 registrations, ahead of the Traz at 12,997 units and Ativa at 12,069 units.

Toyota Yaris Cross maintains strong momentum

The Toyota Yaris Cross continued to establish itself among Malaysia's strongest-selling SUVs, recording 1,381 units in July to finish fourth.

The model only began entering the Malaysian market in significant volume from May, but has since established itself within the top four of the SUV rankings.

Its performance adds another strong competitor to an increasingly crowded upper end of the SUV market, particularly in the compact SUV segment.
