Toyota Land Cruiser FJ to get retro round headlights and Adventure Bumper Set in January 2027

Toyota announced on 2 November that the Land Cruiser FJ will receive two new exterior options in Japan: Round Headlamps and an Adventure Bumper Set. Both are scheduled to launch in early January 2027.

The standard Land Cruiser FJ, featuring square headlights, went on sale in Japan in May 2026. It is offered in a single VX grade, priced at JPY 4,500,100.

The new options bring a more nostalgic look to the compact off-roader, which is built around Toyota's Freedom & Joy philosophy.

The round headlights draw on the heritage of earlier Land Cruiser generations, while the new bumper design adds a more rugged look and practical benefits for off-road use.

Round headlights meet a boxy design

The Land Cruiser FJ takes its design inspiration from the playful shape of a dice, with a boxy body and chamfered edges. Its compact proportions set it apart from larger models in the Land Cruiser family.

Under the body, the FJ uses a reinforced IMV ladder-frame chassis. Power comes from a 2.7-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine producing 163 PS and 246 Nm, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and part-time four-wheel drive.

The SUV measures 4,575 mm long, 1,855 mm wide and 1,960 mm tall, with a 2,580 mm wheelbase. It is 350 mm shorter than the Land Cruiser 250 and has a turning radius of 5.5 metres, giving it more manageable dimensions for urban driving while retaining its off-road capability.

The two new options serve different purposes:

Round Headlamps: These factory-fitted headlights pay tribute to classic Land Cruiser designs, including the 40 Series. Their rounded shape contrasts with the FJ's angular front end, giving the SUV a distinctly retro appearance.

Adventure Bumper Set: This dealer-installed option features bumpers with raised, cut-away corners for a tougher look and improved clearance.

The front and rear bumpers are also made up of three detachable sections. If one section is damaged during off-road driving, it can be replaced on its own rather than requiring the entire bumper to be changed, helping to reduce repair costs.

Toyota has yet to announce pricing for either option.

More factory accessories

The Land Cruiser FJ is also offered with a range of accessories, including MOLLE panels, an ARB-branded roof rack and underbody protection plates.

The Round Headlamps and Adventure Bumper Set are due to go on sale in early January 2027. Owners of the existing FJ with standard square headlights will also be able to upgrade: Toyota plans to offer a factory-fit upgrade service through its TOYOTA UPGRADE FACTORY after-sales programme in spring 2027.

Land Cruiser FJ in Southeast Asia

The Land Cruiser FJ made its global debut in Thailand, where it is priced at THB 1,269,000 (approximately RM 165,000).

Production is led by Toyota's Ban Pho plant in Thailand, with the model intended for export to markets around the world, including elsewhere in Southeast Asia.

The FJ is positioned as a more accessible entry point into the Land Cruiser range, bringing the nameplate's off-road appeal to a wider group of buyers.
