Launched here almost a year ago, it appears that Proton may be working on an updated version of the Proton eMas 5, as spyshots of this B-segment EV hatchback have been finding its way online.
Courtesy of Tony Tony in the paultan.org Automotive/Car Discussion Group Facebook group, we have some spyshots of a heavily camouflaged Proton eMas 5 on the PLUS Highway.

Despite the thick camouflage, this is almost certainly a Proton eMas 5 / Geely Xingyuan, as evident from its integrated third brake light design and tail light design. While some may speculate that it could be a Geely Geometry E-based eMas 3, that’s not quite the case here as the Geometry E’s third brake light is positioned at the top of the rear windshield.

Now that we’ve established that this isn’t the purported eMas 3, what else does Proton have in store for the eMas 5?

While the company hasn’t officially revealed anything, we reckon that this camouflaged mule could be hiding a large 47.14-kWh LFP battery pack – marking a slightly bump in capacity compared to the current eMas 5 (30.12 kWh to 40.16 kWh).

The bump in capacity should translate into improved range too. The Geely EX2, which is the Proton eMas 5’s twin, that recently went on sale in Australia gets the 47.1-kWh LFP pack, and Geely says that it offers up to 345 km under the WLTP cycle. That’s a 20 km increase from the current Premium variant of the eMas 5. At the same time, DC fast charging should also see a slight increase from 71 kW to 80 kW.

Granted, the camouflaged eMas 5 here may be hiding more than just a slightly bigger battery. There are also speculations that the updated eMas 5 may receive a spec bump to include features like a power-adjustable driver seat.
The current Proton eMas 5 is priced from RM 56,800 for the Prime variant, while the Premium goes for RM 69,800.
